Writers in residence enjoy memberships to our local institutional partners. Many thanks to these local organizations for their support and for welcoming our fellows into the community.
We partner with BSB for all our book sales and have a shelf of James Merrill books and books by our fellows at our beloved local bookstore.
Stonington High School
Each year the James Merrill House Board awards the James Merrill Prize for Creative Writing to a graduating senior nominated by the Stonington High School English Department.
Fellows enjoy an open door invitation to visit the Lighthouse Museum, the historical Palmer House, and Woolworth Library where the Merrill Reading Room is located.
This wonderful Inn allows our fellows to use their gym while in residence. Perfect for the fellows who don't have cars.
We host our Merrill lecturers here, and our fellows are welcome to attend their art openings and music concerts
Stonington Community Center (COMO)
Fellows have a membership to the COMO and can enjoy the Dubois Beach at the end of the village.
A membership to the Stonington Free Library and the opportunity to read from their work in the event space.
Fellows receive a complimentary membership to our local YMCA both at the Mystic and Westerly branch.
